Zombie Fest and World Zombie Day

Postby leggs on Sat Apr 19, 2008 4:34 am

Greetings from Pittsburgh PA, Zombie Capital of the World!!!
What is Zombie Fest?

Zombie Fest is a full weekend of zombie fun and monster madness held in Pittsburgh, Zombie Capital of the World. Events include:

A two-day zombie-themed convention at the Pittsburgh ExpoMart featuring vendor exhibits, film screenings, gaming tournaments, author discussion panels, and much more. Highlights of the 2007 Fest included: zombie makeup demonstrations by the Tom Savini Special Make-Up Effects Program of the Douglas Education Center; celebrity guests from the original George Romero zombie films; screenings of the independent films Carmilla’s Kiss, Redsin Tower, and the east coast premiere of Zombie Farm. The keynote presentation of The It’s Alive! 2007 Zombie Fest was by Max Brooks, author of The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z.

The Zombie Ball is the monster party of the century! Eat, drink, dance, and rub elbows with the upper crust undead! Come in formal or informal zombie attire, or just come as you are! The Zombie Ball includes a costume contest and silent auction. Last year’s auction raised $1,000 for breast cancer research!

On Sunday morning, zombies take over Monroeville Mall, site of the Romero zombie classic Dawn of the Dead. Zombies, young and old, shambling and moaning for brains while bearing food donations for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Led by Professor Emcee Square, host of TV's The It's Alive Show, the horde of zombies slowly made their way from one end of the mall to the other. In 2007, the total number of zombies who signed in was 1,028, establishing a new Guinness World Record™, and more than half a ton of food was collected. The walk was honored with a Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award for Best Fan Event of 2007. In 2008, the Monroeville Mall Zombie Walk will be the hub of World Zombie Day, with walks being held in cities worldwide for the benefit of local food banks.
The schedule of activities and celebrity guests is being developed, and details will be released as they become available. But expect fun, carnival-like experience over the course of the weekend. The undead like to have fun too!

When and where will it be held?

The It’s Alive! 2008 Zombie Fest will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 25 and 26, 2008. We are also planning some pre-show activities on Friday, October 24, for out-of-towners and interested early birds. Details to be announced soon.

The Pittsburgh ExpoMart and Radisson Hotel – Pittsburgh's preferred convention complex – is the home of Zombie Fest. The ExpoMart is located in Monroeville, PA, adjacent to Monroeville Mall. Special room rates are available for sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees of Zombie Fest. Please continue to check our web site for details!

Who's responsible for this thing?

The It's Alive! 2008 Zombie Fest is an all-volunteer event hosted by the cast, crew, and fans of The It's Alive Show, seen Saturday nights at 10:00 PM on WBGN-TV, Pittsburgh.

Why do we do it?

Because we love zombies.

Damn it all...Why can't they do these kinds of things in Colorado?

My friend went to something like this in '06 in New Hampshire and got me an autographed Dawn of the Dead poster (Romero and Savini) but I still want something like this to come to the Rockies.
